Congressmen Edward Markey (D-7th MA) and Eric Cantor (R-7th VA) who have been active in issues involving International outreach in television and such concerns as sex and violence in programming, will make official appearances in Beverly Hills when the Caucus for Producers, Writers and Directors presents them with the American Spirit Award on April 5 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, announced Event Chair, Chuck Fries.

“We are honoring Congressmen Markey and Cantor for their vigorous positions on behalf of better television production, as well as their concerns for network neutrality, media ownership and ongoing efforts around sex and violence on the air,” stated Caucus Chair Dennis Doty, who noted their appearances in Hollywood are expected to result in news of new activities involving television in Congress. They will be joined in the awards ceremonies by actress/producer Connie Stevens, an officer of the Screen Actors Guild, a longtime Guild activist.

Event Co-Chairs Lionel Chetwynd and Gil Cates are responsible for selecting the Congressmen for the award event, and will make the presentations as well as will Vin Di Bona to Connie Stevens. A coalition of key Hollywood Guilds: the Producers, Actors and Writers Guilds have joined forces with the Caucus to present the event.
