Caucus awards for the year 2008 were presented to Gil Cates, Producer of the Year, with Bill Blinn winning the same spot in the Writer category, Steve Binder, Director, and Tina Fey topping the Actor/Hyphenate category, by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors Sunday night (7) at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Caucus Chair Dennis Doty, who headlined the black tie gala with Foundation President Chuck Fries and Lee Miller as Event Chairs, signified the 26th annual Caucus /awards presentations delivered to key creative members of the television industry. To celebrate the anniversary and look to the future, Doty announced his selection of previous Chair Vin Di Bona to receive the Chair's award in recognition of his continued service

to the Caucus, while the New Vision Award, established last year to cite growth in technology, went to Comedy.Com Founder and CEO Dean Valentine. Voted unanimously by the Caucus Steering Committee, Doty pointed out Valentine was selected for the special honor for his achievements in developing new areas in television production.

Valentine joined key industry figures also saluted at the event, including producer Fred Silverman, Caucus Lifetime Achievement; Executive Producer John Berzner, Caucus Distinguished Service; MGM Co-President Worldwide Television Jim Packer, Executive of the Year, and Broadcaster and Advocate Tavis Smiley, Journalism Award. Hosted by actor/TV personality Mark Walberg, the ceremony participants included Steven Bochco, Bo Derek, Sean Young, Ken Werner, Mike Bridenstine, and Wren Brown as presenters.

In a separate announcement, Caucus Foundation Co-Founder and President Fries presented the Gold Circle Award for year's Outstanding Student Film to Steven Edell (USC) for his film "A Son's War" and second place to Nicholas Delgado (USC) for "The Macabre World of Lavender Williams." Both students receive cash awards to complete their films, as well as in kind services. camera package from Panavision, represented on the program by Ric Halpern, and a Hi-Def post-production package from HTV Illuminate, represented by Jim Hardy. The Gold Circle was inaugurated to honor Fred Goldey by Caucus Foundation Board member John Berzner, who was an outstanding producer who mentored young filmmakers. The Caucus has presented more than $663,500 in awards end grants to student filmmakers since its inception in 2001...

The Caucus for Television Producers, Writers & Directors is the principal multi-guild professional organization mentoring television producers, writers and directors in their negotiations with the cable and broadcast networks for their creative rights.
